🚧 Marksheffel Mess Continues

Construction near Marksheffel and Dublin continues to be a daily frustration for many nearby residents, especially with the Marksheffel entrance to Tarren Heights now closed for several months and no clear end date for the larger project. Drivers say commutes that should take around 20 minutes are now stretching much longer, while pedestrians and kids trying to get around the area are also dealing with the disruption.

Newer residents say the detours can be especially confusing due to limited or unclear signage, and neighbors are also voicing concerns about speeding through and around the construction zone. For people living in this fast-growing part of town, the project is becoming more than just an inconvenience, it’s affecting everyday routines and raising real safety concerns. Full Story

At the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, caring for animals sometimes means thinking a little outside the box, especially when your patient weighs over a ton. Jumbe, a 23-year-old Eastern black rhinoceros, is now participating in specialized dental care as part of his routine health training. As rhinos age, their teeth can develop sharp edges that may cause discomfort, so his care team gently files his molars to keep things smooth and prevent sores.

Through consistent training, Jumbe has learned to cooperate with the process, allowing keepers to safely provide care without stress or force. (You have to check out the video, you’ll be amazed!) It’s a thoughtful approach that highlights both the intelligence of these animals and the dedication of the teams who care for them.

πŸ’§ TRIVIA: Colorado Springs’ Water Story Started Here

Did you know Colorado Springs’ water story began almost as soon as the city did? In 1871, just four days after the town was founded, leaders contracted for the El Paso Canal, a practical but powerful decision that helped bring Fountain Creek water into the new settlement and made growth possible on a dry stretch of prairie. What feels ordinary now, turning on a tap, watering a yard, watching neighborhoods spread, started with a hard choice about who would get water first and how far the city would have to go to keep it.

What creek did Colorado Springs’ early water system depend on before bigger regional water projects were built?

That matters more than ever today, when water, housing, and growth are all tangled together. The El Paso Canal was not just a piece of infrastructure; it was a signal that Colorado Springs would survive by reaching, planning, and competing for water in a region where every drop carries weight. For residents now, that same tension still shapes the city’s future, because the question has never really been whether we need water. Today, the concern is whether Colorado Springs can keep growing without stretching its water supply too thin especially during dry seasons.
