😳 How One Near-Drowning Sparked A Movement In COS

Pikes Peak Athletics Foundation is quietly reshaping what water safety looks like for families in Colorado Springs. Not every child here grows up with access to swim lessons, and for many households, the cost can feel completely out of reach. The foundation steps into that gap by reducing financial barriers so kids and adults can learn to swim, gain confidence, and stay safe around water all year long.
Owner and coach Anna Heidinger carries a deeply personal reason for this mission: her mother nearly drowned as a teenager, a single moment that could have changed her family’s story forever. That close call inspired a lifelong commitment to make quality swim instruction available regardless of income, experience, or background.
Through need-based financial aid, the Pikes Peak Athletics Foundation helps cover swim lessons, team participation, and equipment for local families who otherwise might never step through the doors of a pool. Scholarship swimmers are welcomed into small classes alongside paying families, with no separation, just shared learning and encouragement.
For some, that first class is about survival skills. For others, it becomes the start of a new passion, friendships, and a sense of belonging right here in Colorado Springs.
If you feel drawn to help more neighbors gain this life-saving skill, you can support a scholarship, sponsor lessons, or share their mission, or encourage a local family who needs support to apply.
🙋♀️ HELP STILL NEEDED…don’t forget to revisit the last Community Corner issue as our local Veteran’s need help raising the funding for the new HVAC system that is failing. If you can help, click below and be taken to their donations page:
