⏰ Don’t Forget to “Fall Back”

As we shift back to Standard Time this Sunday morning at 2am, expect the sun to rise earlier—but set much sooner, with evenings darkening around 4:30pm. The lower sun angle brings cooler afternoons, and chilly nights will creep in faster. While the early sunsets may feel like a loss, they can also be a cozy invitation to slow down, savor a warm drink, and embrace indoor comforts. For morning folks, the earlier sunrise might feel like a welcome reset to your routine. Either way, it's a natural nudge into winter’s slower, softer pace. Full Story
🤑 Free Lottery Tickets Today!

With Mega Millions tickets now priced at $5 each, the idea of “being in it to win it” is a bit less possible — but if you're in Fountain today and feeling lucky, there's a no-cost way to play. Starting at 12pm, the Colorado Lottery will be giving away 150 free tickets at the King Soopers at 6255 Sawcut Point. The giveaway ends once the tickets are gone, and in past events, that’s happened in as little as 10-30 minutes. With the Mega Millions jackpot now at $754 million, this could be your moment — no purchase necessary, just a detour and a little hope. Full Story

🚫 Local Eatery Shut Down + 🍣 Sushi Shines

This week’s restaurant inspections brought a mix of concern and celebration. The Hot Spot at Citadel Mall failed its third annual inspection, resulting in a temporary closure due to 27 violations, including poor handwashing practices and unsafe food storage. Full Story
Thankfully, no other failures were reported this week.
🥇 Top Scores! In fact, several local restaurants earned praise for their cleanliness and operations. Among the top scorers was Sushi Spot on S 8th St, where freshness and spotless standards are part of the daily routine. Owner Ethan, who took over the restaurant at just 22 yrs old, says customers notice cleanliness right away—and it shows in the results.

✅ Other High Scores:
- Sofia’s Antojitos – N Academy
- Erickberto’s – Barnes Rd
Health inspection results across El Paso County are available online for those wanting to check their favorite spots.
*Note: Most local restaurants take food safety incredibly seriously. In fact, many owners respond to violations swiftly and thoroughly, often making fixes the same day while they wait for reinspection.

🍞 Decadent Gluten-Free Apple Fritter Bread

Recipe by fearless dining
Each slice of this recipe has soft chunks of apple and a ribbon of cinnamon brown sugar running through the middle. The bread bakes up tender with just the right amount of sweetness, and the light glaze on top brings it all together. It is simple, easy to make, and a great recipe to share with family or friends.

🥾 3 Miles of Springs’ History - Duck Lake
This week’s hike is coming to you by our friend Heath Gay, founder of the Colorado Fan Club. If you’re looking for a trail that’s as rich in history as it is in scenery, the Duck Lake and Monument Valley Park Loop is a must.
Beginning at the newly restored Duck Lake off Glen Ave, this 3-mile loop winds south along the Pikes Peak Greenway, passing the Demonstration Gardens, Shadow Lake, and eventually Tahama Spring—the last natural spring tied to the city’s name. Along the way, you’ll spot New Deal-era stonework and learn about the 1935 and 1965 floods that reshaped the area. This easy, mostly level walk offers more than just a breath of fresh air—it’s a journey through the story of Colorado Springs.
Location: Duck Lake Parking Area off Glen Avenue (Monument Valley Park)
