π² Why Colorado Springs Seniors Are Refusing Their Walkers
π΅ From "Too Fragile" To Daily Adventures... with Kristen Nielsen
A daughter stood in her mother's doorway, watching her grip the walker that Medicare said she no longer needed therapy to use. The insurance had run out, the therapist had left, and now what? If you've faced this moment with someone you love, or for yourself, you know the helplessness that follows.
Here in Colorado Springs, one in four adults over 65 will fall this year. Behind each statistic is a neighbor, a parent, or maybe even you, facing a choice: risk independence or surrender to a chair. Most don't realize there's a third option.
Years ago, Kristen Nielsen watched her 80-year-old grandfather summit a fourteener. A former Division I athlete who later became a wife and mother of four, she'd spent years leading 5:30am garage workouts for friends. But that image of her grandfather on the mountain stayed with her, eventually reshaping how she saw fitness entirely. "Fitness isn't about gym mirrors," she realized. "It's about freedom."
After getting certified in senior fitness, Kristen noticed a painful gap. Clients would complete physical therapy, make progress, then slowly decline because no one showed them how to continue. The medical world offered no bridge between rehabilitation and real life. So she built one herself.
Enter StrongWON at Homeβwhere living rooms become safe spaces to rebuild strength. Whether you have family helping you or you're navigating this journey on your own, Kristen creates personalized programs that train body, brain, and balance together. For those with support at home, she teaches family members to guide exercises that feel more like games than work. For those going solo, she's right there with you through every movement.
Consider one of Kristen's clients: an 81-year-old who'd never exercised. After starting the program, she went from fearing outdoor walks because she felt too fragile, to enjoying daily 30-minute adventures. "I can't believe I can do these things," she texts Kristen regularly, still amazed at her own strength.
