πΈ The Bartender Who Became Colorado Springs' Tax Hero
π‘ What she overheard at the bar started a 40-year mission
Back in 1982, Laurie Nemeth was bartending in the Bay Area in California. Numbers always came easy to her, and as customers nursed their drinks and complained about tax bills, she'd lean across the bar with unexpected advice. "That new car you bought? Tax deduction. Those medical expenses? Deductible too." Their shocked faces told her everything. These hardworking people had no idea they were leaving money on the table every April.
That revelation sparked a career change that would span four decades. Her deep financial expertise is built on a career that includes high-level corporate auditing and serving as a Certified Municipal Finance Officer (CFO), cleaning up books for entire municipalities back east. She eventually launched her own practice to bring this wealth of experience directly to our community.
In 2010, she followed her military son to Colorado Springs, establishing her firm in the Widefield/Security area. Here, she quickly saw that her neighbors, especially seniors and military families, were struggling with complex tax laws and needed an affordable, trustworthy guide. Her purpose became clear: to serve the community she now called home.
Laurie discovered a heartbreaking reality: many seniors were being taxed up to 85% on their Social Security. It wasn't just a number on a form; it was their livelihood. Her response was immediate, slashing her fees to offer discounts to seniors and significant breaks for military members. This dedication runs deep; she has continued serving clients even while navigating her own personal health battle. For Laurie, itβs about providing guidance through lifeβs toughest financial challenges.
Laurie's approach is rooted in education. She gives clients "homework" to uncover every possible deduction, from medical mileage to energy credits for new windows. This commitment has built relationships that span generations and state lines. With free consultations and a website full of resources, she empowers everyone to understand their finances, reinforcing her core belief that "Clients Matter."
For expert guidance with a personal touch, visit Laurie's Bookkeeping & Tax Service at 76 Widefield Boulevard. Explore FREE resources and learn more on her website or email [email protected].
